Matthew Venables is a self taught Australian freelance photographer and video guy. 

When travelling in Japan in 1994, he stayed with a family who owned a second hand camera shop. The Tsugawa’s of Kobe heard of his interest in photography and made him a farewell gift of a Canon AE-1 camera and a couple of beautiful FD lenses. 

This act of generosity has changed his life.

Since then he has worked with clients big and small.

Been a founding member, director and builder of 107 Projects - a multi-arts community hub in Redfern.

Completed his first feature length documentary.

Learnt how to play pinball and taken up climbing.
